Learning To Meditate

It doesn't matter whether you are young or old, learning to meditate is achievable by all. No special skills or attributes are needed, all you have to do is sit down and be.

Training the mind to achieve this state of being is concentration.

Which implies doing an activity slowly and quietly without being distracted and so that you can focus your attention on thinking one thing at a time.

These days peoples lives are so busy and full of activities, most of us find it hard to think one thought at a time.

Learning to meditate will help you to achieve this.

Being in a state of non-doing teaches you to still your mind and cut through the endless mental chatter.

You can learn to quieten the chatter by not getting caught up in the thoughts that go racing through your mind, simply let the thoughts occur then release them.

This does take practise, some people take longer than others, the point is you can do it and you will find the effort is worth it because the less thoughts you have running through your mind, the clearer and more focused your mind will be.

Meditation teaches you to be more honest with yourself, you will be more likely to take a more harmonious approach to life.

Compassion and wisdom are two qualities associated with meditative traditions, you can achieve this through a true understanding of your mind states.

This can be attained if you commit yourself to daily practise. Start out by sitting for as long as you can, five minutes is better than not at all.

The more practise you do the easier it becomes.

Just remember, you can do it. Positive thinking will help you to achieve your goals, always think I can do, not I can't do and you will succeed.
